New licensing options for PowerApps and Microsoft Flow standalone paid plans
We’ve seen tremendous growth in the usage of PowerApps and Flow over the course of the past year. Just as we’ve been rolling out new features in response to user input, we’re also listening to input about how to license and implement platform capabilities in standalone plans.
Three requests we’ve heard loud and clear when it comes to the standalone PowerApps and Flow plans from organizations of all sizes:
- Make it easier to get started with a single use case. Before rolling out the “full platform” for all users, many customers want to be able to license a single PowerApps or Flow scenario.
- Make licensing easier to understand. Simplify the feature-level differences that existed between P1 and P2 plans.
- Clarify how external users will be licensed. We’ve recently released PowerApps Portals for external users. Customers understandably want to know how licensing will work for these as they explore the preview.
In response to these needs, we’re pleased to announce two new plans that we will be introducing in October of this year: a PowerApps per app plan and a Flow per business process plan.
The PowerApps per app plan will allow individual users to run applications for a specific business scenario, while the Flow per business process plan will enable critical business processes to be implemented with capacity that serves teams, departments or the entire organization. Both seek to make it easier for organizations to get started and scale as their unique needs grow over time, whether that’s implementing one scenario or a single business process, without having to purchase unlimited premium plans for all their users.
As an example of a standalone application, customers will be able to deliver a solution for event management that includes:
- A portal for external users to register
- A web app to manage registrations and logistics
- A mobile app for staff to use on site
These assets will be able to be grouped into one scenario and licensed as a single application.
We are also removing feature and capability differentiation across the paid, standalone PowerApps and Flow user-based plans. All customers will be able to benefit from the full features of the services, regardless of which plans they purchase. Key concepts like complex entities, or model-driven applications, will no longer be available in only some of the licenses.
An important part of this feature simplification is that we will no longer require any standalone plans for maker or admin capabilities. Previously admins required a PowerApps P2 license for certain management operations; this will no longer be the case.
Here’s a specific outline of the changes we’re making to the standalone plans:
New and renewing customers will have the flexibility to choose PowerApps per app or per user plans.
- PowerApps per app plan. Allow individual users to run applications for a specific business scenario based on the full capabilities of PowerApps. Pricing will be $10 user/app/month.
- PowerApps per user plan. Equip individual users to run an unlimited number of apps, without any feature restrictions. This takes the place of existing P1 and P2 plans and will be $40 /user / month.
PowerApps users will continue to be able to run any flow that is triggered directly from an app, or from the data that app updates. However the full standalone capabilities of Microsoft Flow will be reserved for the standalone Flow plans outlined below.
PowerApps Portals provide low-code tools to build responsive websites that connect an organization with external customers or partners. This is done by providing the ability to create a new portal app which can be accessed by internal users, anonymous external users, or by authenticating external users with LinkedIn, local logins, Microsoft accounts and many other identity providers. The ability to access PowerApps Portals is included as part of the new PowerApps per user and per app plans for internal users.
PowerApps Portals will be licensed per the following:
- External users (authenticated) will be $200 for 100 logins/month.
- External users (anonymous) will be $100 for 100,000 web page views/month.
- Internal users are able to access portals using a PowerApps per app or per user plan as per above.
Microsoft Flow plans
New and renewing customers will have the flexibility to choose Flow per user or per business process plans:
- Flow per user plan. Equip individual users to create unlimited workflows and business processes based on their requirements. This means the existing Flow P1 and P2 plans will collapse into a single simplified per user plan. Pricing will be $15 user/month.
- Flow per business process. Implement critical business processes with capacity that serves teams, departments or the entire organization, for an unlimited number of users. Pricing will be $500 business process/month for up to 5 active workflows.
As part of the changes to Flow licensing there will no longer be plan-based limits on Flow trigger frequency or the limits on Flow runs. Going forward we are moving to a simplified model across PowerApps and Flow with a single, integrated approach for daily capacity limits to ensure a consistent quality of service. Organizations that require additional capacity for heavy usage scenarios will be able to reserve add-on capacity and assign it to specific users or processes.
