On May 25th, we announced the public preview of the Power Platform Extension to VS Code. This helps organizations that continue to strive bridging the “collaboration” gap between with code-first developers and citizen developers.  This public preview is available for developers on MacOS (Intel, and M1) and on Windows10.

Today we’re excited to announce a vast new set of capabilities that provide enterprise grade application lifecycle management for the data sources used within canvas apps and cloud flows. Environment variables are now natively built into authoring experiences across canvas apps and flows as well as solution and solution import experiences. We’ve also added several new API’s to simplify working with environment variables in code and within automated ALM pipelines.

Source code files for Canvas apps

Imagine using GitHub and Visual Studio Code with the text formulas of a Canvas app.  Teams can collaborate on apps: they can work on private branches, diff changes, create pull requests for review, and merge into master. We are very pleased to announce the experimental release of a tool that enables these modern miracles.  It is but the first step as we make application lifecycle management easier for formulas and Canvas apps.
